Light Colors may be even better than you thought
We are headed full speed towards the white, light colors and anything bright. Here is why you shouldn’t be afraid to join in on the fun and why this probably isn’t a quick trend we’ll be over in a jiffy…
It’s that time of year, the beginning of the warm weather. Where you throw out the darks and enjoy the brightness of the sun. Our wardrobe changes, the exterior of our homes change and the interior too! It is a beautiful time to change from the deep blues and blacks to soft purples and oranges. In addition, we all get a little white fever, bring anything light and bright in.
With Valentines, Easter, Summer, etc. we indulge in all the wreaths, flowers and vases with pastels and bright colors. And when the cold comes back around with fall we go back to the dark colors. It’s a rotation. But, what if all your holidays and seasons were ALL bright and cheerful?… And you could still use the black witch hat and deep forest green pines but your home would stay bright if a few semi-permanent aspects were those darling pastels and whites. Such as, Countertops, Cabinets, Wall paint or even appliances.
Take the kitchen below with it’s beautiful White Quartz countertops and grey veining and the soft blue cabinets. The kitchen is so bright and cheery, floors are able to be dark without enclosing the room. It shows off the shape and design of the kitchen and lets each element be it’s own rather than compressing the image to a whole shadow.
Don’t worry about going overboard with your spring excitement and getting too many permanent white and pastels. If you put dark in your home, it will always be dark. If you put bright in your home, it will always be bright. “Well duh”… I know right? But sometimes we worry that maybe it’s just a phase we are going through. So we fear from going soft and bright so we go a little darker but then you are always stuck with darker… if you are like most people and keep your countertops, cabinets and paint for a long time. All I am hear to say is, you don’t need to fear light colors because it’s not a seasonal color.
Light colors are so amazing the way they open up a space and makes everything feel more inviting. Have you ever wondered why ceilings are almost always white? Well I don’t actually know. But my theory and the reason I have no objections to it is, because white opens a space up! If you were to have a darker ceiling it could close off the space and make a room feel more like a cage rather than a beautiful abode.
Light colors, especially whites, create such a beautiful contrast. For example, the above picture with different shades of white against the dark microwave and cooktop. The little bits of dark in the countertop pop with and make it look so elegant and beautiful. Even with dark hardwood and elements but with the cabinets, fridge, walls and counters being light, the dark doesn’t ruin the vibrant brightness.
It’s easy to add dark to your home but with dark walls, floors and counters. However, it is very hard lighten it up with just decor! That’s why we are encouraging less fear and to embrace this white “movement”, I dare say.
